coritaart center

Corita Art Center is an institution and gallery space that preserves and promotes the art, teachings, and passion for social justice of pop artist Corita Kent. In 2024, I was brought onto the Corita Art Center team and have been assisting with various projects since.
Through my time with Corita Art Center, I've had the opportunity to make social media assets, material for the gallery space, merchandise, and even a zine for a benefit dinner. I always found a significant challenge for designing for Corita Art Center was how to reference Corita Kent without being too literal to her work. I realized that the best way to reference Corita Kent was to use her philosophies on art making in my design work.
During Corita's time as the head of the art department at Immaculate Heart College, her and her students created a list of rules for the department, commonly called the "Ten Rules". I always took rule nine to heart when designing for Corita Art Center.
"Be happy whenever you can manage it. Enjoy yourself. It's lighter than you think."
