SoCAL EARTH
Brand Creation | Illustration | Visual Identity
SoCal Earth is a brand and visual identity project that was created for the Robert Redford Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability at Pitzer College. SoCal Earth is a new environmental data website and educational program. My role with SoCal Earth was to create its visual identity and enhance its brand. When interviewing the Robert Redford Conservancy, the concept of living off what we already have kept emerging. With this resourceful philosophy in mind, I used the paper I already had in my studio to create the logo. Illustrations, animations, and even a cartoon mascot were all created with paper in my studio and then digitally converted to use on the site. For the final SoCal Earth experience, visit the site here.
Looping animation made to highlight some of the main features of the SoCal Earth website.
The sun was used for the main logo as it's a connection between Southern California nature and cities.
Example screenshots of the SoCal Earth website upon launch. The website was designed to be as organic and physical as possible while still being functional and advanced.
Illustrations shown were created for various pages, such as "Biodiversity", "Climate" and "Water". All illustrations were created with paper, then transferred digitally for further editing.
Ollie the Burrowing Owl was created originally as a children's mascot, but they eventually became a mascot for all of SoCal Earth. All illustrations of Ollie were also made from cut paper.
Advertisements were made for multiple platforms. In this ad, the biker goes downhill with the Earth and birds while cars are stuck in traffic going against the Earth.
Merchandise was only in mockups with plans to produce after launch.
